A Note
From Rory
Dear Reader,
Today
is a really special day for the family. Our daughter Dylan,
turns
3 today, and it is really hard to believe. Now while 3 is not
a
huge milestone, and yes there will be plenty more ahead, it is just
remarkable to take a moment to look back on life and reflect on where
we have been, where we are today, and where we are headed.
But
I'll be honest with you, what I love the most about pausing on a day
like today, is the ability to really appreciate the development of a
child happening right before my very eyes!
There is nothing I
like more - or find as exciting - than seeing a child embrace all the
things in life that I have grown so accustomed to over the years...
There is no greater defining moment (albeit often unexpected)
when you connect with a child who is for the first time appreciating
what we have come to accept.
That point alone is reason enough to love children and be inspired by
them everyday!

PS - Still tweaking "Everybody Gets
Coached" - so there is time to get involved if you are
looking for coaching.
PPS - And there is also still time to ask
your question for the July call with "Dr. Cerulli."

Article:
Taking A
Moment To Pause & Reflect
By, Dr. Rory Stern
In our fast paced society, expectations and demands seem to be
mounting on a daily basis. As adults (parents), we are often
working longer and harder to make ends meet or, perhaps in business, we
are finding ways to extend the work day every which way we can.
For
our children, there seems to be mounting pressure and competition to
excel and stand out. Greater competition leads to higher
standards and expectations, along with this notion of taking on more
activities to stand out today.
Unfortunately, we are not being taught (or somehow we have forgotten)
the real need to slow down.
Why slow down?
I can give you any number of logical reasons that we should all slow
down, but do we really need logical answers at this point?
Slowing down is not about
failure... It's not about giving up... It's not
about
sacrifice... And it's not a question of commitment or
dedication.
Instead, slowing down shows that you are 100% committed to
the
most important aspect of life - YOU (or your child)!
Slowing
down is more about being able to appreciate the simple things.
It's about remembering who you are, where you come from, what
you
are doing, and where you are headed. Let's call it a check-in.
But above all else, slowing down gives us the opportunity to pause and reflect.
When was the last time you really stepped out of the drivers seat of
life and became a passenger?
Exercise:
Carve out some time in your day - preferably around a meal
time or snack time.
- Get in a comfortable position.
- Turn off all electronic devices (and distractions).
- Have your snack.
Here comes the tricky part:
**Your only job during this exercise is to think about the food you are
eating. You are NOT
ALLOWED to think about anything else. You really
have to clear your mind.
While
you are eating, focus on the process. Think about what you are doing in
the moment. What is the texture of the food like?
How does
it really taste? What are you experiencing as you are chewing?
For
this exercise to really work, you need to clear your mind. Or
perhaps by trying this exercise, you will be clearing your mind.
Whether
or not you have ADHD yourself, it is far too easy for us to get stuck
in our heads, thinking about all the things we could be doing....
Should be doing.... All while still focusing on
what we are
NOT doing!

Last
Chance To Upgrade!
I wanted to
let you know that this week is the last chance to order the
downloadable mp3 audios and transcripts for the ADHD Strategy Series at
the current price of $67.00.
http://www.adhdstrategyseries.com/upgrade.html
After this week, you will NOT be able to get the package as it exists
today, and certainly not at this price. As I mentioned during the last
call of the series, this is not a scare tactic. I had
actually intended on raising the price within one week after completing
the series, but with my travel over the course of July - that did not
happen.
If you were thinking about, or have questions, now is the time to ask.
The price for the ADHD Strategy Series Upgrade will be going
up to $97.00.
Oh yea - and there is still time to get in on the live Q&A
calls with some of our featured experts and speakers.
Everybody Gets Coached
Many of you have contacted me about coaching options, and I am
still sorting out all the details. But we are going to be
moving
ahead with "Everybody Gets Coached." In fact, I am actually
going
to be working on two different coaching programs: 1)
Different
levels of information, different levels of access (based upon your
interest and 2) Everybody Gets Coached Format.
What's the difference?
Option #1: Getting you access to the information you need on a
consistent, reliable basis.
Option #2: A more in-depth level of coaching that relies on group
support and feedback, rather than just hearing from me (and my opinion
/ experience).
While I have NOT yet formally introduced "Option #1," I wanted to
keep the dialog open as I explore what options are available for anyone
interested.

Who Is
Dr. Rory Stern?
Dr. Stern is a father, husband, son, "former therapist", ADHD coach,
and information provider. He works from home while caring for
his
two young children (3 y/o daughter Dylan and 9 month old son Gavin).
His blog, The Truth
Behind ADHD, is really an expression of a message he once
delivered to children and parents while working as a psychotherapist.
Having left the workforce to care for my two children, I still feel
the burning desire to share my message with others. I am
passionate about supporting children and their parents, and making sure
that the right information gets to the people who need it the most.
In terms of ADHD, I became active in the community because
too
many of my patients and their families did not have enough information.
And often times, the information they were getting was as
absent
as the support and understanding they received from colleagues,
friends, and professionals.
Dr. Stern's message is just as much about education and advocacy,
as it is about understanding ADHD. I do what I do because I
want
to change all that. It is my intent to make sure that parents
and
children all over the world realize that while ADHD is real, it is also
a label and a name to characterize certain traits and qualities that
can do so much good in a time when there is so much bad.
"I don't want to see another child simply be misunderstood, mislabeled,
misdirected, and mistreated," says Dr. Stern.
Professional Bits:
Dr. Stern earned his doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the
Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology. While
studying,
he also completed a Graduate Certificate in Executive Coaching.
He is a member of the American Psychological Association and
currently serves on the National Board of Directors for the Attention
Deficit Disorder Association (ADDA).
